Welcome to High Tailin' Outdoors
At High Tailin’ Outdoors, our unwavering mission is to empower veterans and youth by forging a profound connection between them and the natural world. We are committed to instilling a deep appreciation for the outdoors and its myriad benefits through engaging activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, and hunting land management.
Our core values revolve around fostering personal growth, resilience, and a sense of purpose in our participants. We aim to provide them with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to thrive in the great outdoors and beyond.
Simultaneously, we are dedicated to the responsible stewardship of our natural resources. Through hunting land management and conservation initiatives, we ensure that the environment remains pristine and bountiful for generations to come.
High Tailin’ Outdoors strives to build a close-knit community where veterans and young individuals find support, camaraderie, and mentorship, creating a lasting and positive impact on their lives.
By pursuing these endeavors, we envision a brighter future, where both our veterans and the next generation can find purpose, healing, and a lifelong love for the outdoors.
An Interview With Our Founder Keith
Keith felt the isolation intimately. Not attending family outings, cancelling Veterans Affairs doctor's appointments and not leaving the house—for anything. He was spiraling down so fast that suicide seemed like the only way out. After going from having a purpose in life to suddenly losing that purpose and camaraderie, he felt like there was nothing exciting left in life.
It was at one of his worst moments that the Wounded Warrior project called. He was invited to go on a fishing trip with Dave Marciano of Wicked Tuna. This was an injection of life. A good portion of Keith’s time was spent at home, sedentary, watching TV series like Wicked Tuna.
The day out on the water changed his outlook and showed him that the world does keep turning and people can keep living, perhaps differently than before. He relaxed and finally found a sense of peace that he hadn’t felt since leaving the army.
From that point forward, the thought lingered that he might one day feel good enough and have enough internal motivation to start a non-profit focused on veterans and youth.
